Why We Started Renewing OnlyDecks

In late February, a deck we published on OnlyDecks got read far more than we expected.
It wasn't our first upload, and it wasn't accidental. The team had been studying carrying capacity and product management together — we turned that research into slides and published it. Views and shares picked up noticeably.
That's what OnlyDecks is for. When we launched in February, we said the same thing: a place to share materials the team makes while studying. This time was no different — we researched, made a deck, and put it out.
Carrying capacity — what the team studied
Carrying capacity comes from ecology, but it maps cleanly onto startups. There's a limit to how much a team can do well at once. Cross that line and speed, quality, and standards slip together.
We made it a team-wide topic:
- What can we actually carry at our current size?
- How do we split "worth doing more" from "must sustain for now"?
- When attention, requests, and ideas grow — what's our basis for saying no?
As we organized those discussions, carrying capacity alone wasn't enough. We also needed how to set priorities and scope — planning and PM methodology inside the team.
Product management — our internal planning frame
The whole team studied product management together. We read, debated, and aligned on standards that fit Snapdeck and OnlyDecks:
- What to commit to this quarter vs. what to explicitly not do
- Define the problem first before adding features
- Inside current carrying capacity, what can we finish this month?
If carrying capacity asks how much we can carry, PM study was how to decide what comes first. Both were internal research — and we summarized it in one deck on OnlyDecks.
The deck got traction — and that led to renewal
As the deck gained attention, another question followed.
This wasn't just a folder of files anymore — people were showing up on purpose. Shares went up. Emails like "where did you find this deck?" started arriving. Research turned into a deck, and the deck turned into traffic.
Then: "Can our current structure actually carry this level of attention?"
The decks were fine; finding, reading, and coming back wasn't. From both a carrying-capacity and PM lens, the answer was the same — raise the structure first.
In early March we started a full OnlyDecks site renewal — identity, blue tone, deck discovery, mobile reading flow. Make a place that properly serves decks built from study.
After about a month, the first screen reads clearer. Return visits and cross-deck navigation picked up.
One deck from team research drove traffic; that attention pushed us to fix OnlyDecks. The renewal is still in progress, and we'll keep publishing new decks as we study new topics.
